Sound in Ubuntu upgrade to Karmic Koala

Couldn't get sound going on my work PC with onboard audio card. Found on ubuntuforums.org:
pulseaudio --kill
rm -r ~/.pulse
rm ~/.pulse-cookie
pulseaudio --start
